Hey, my computer starts up and says this "cmos/gpnv checksum bad" in the screen that shows how fast your computer and memory with all the master a slave drives.

I heard it was probably my battery so I bought a new one, now I hear that there is a spacific way to put in the battery?? is there something on it that will tell me?

I was looking on google and they said check out the CMOS chip itself does it look like this?

    and

Clearing the CMOS is worth a try also. There should be a jumper on your motherboard to do this

Can anyone explain where a jumper is on a motherboard?

don't clear your cmos just yet... all you have to do is shut down your computer, pull the old battery out and turn it back on... actually pulling the cmos battery out will clear the cmos for you. just changing it will do the trick, the only way the cmos can hold memory is if it has power to it... its kind of like an onboard ram module, if no power is fed to it there is no way it can hold memory. get it?

they way you take it out is the way you put it back in... the writing and battery information should be facing away from the mother board and facing you.

Just remove the CMOS battery, lil silver circle, does the same thing as the jumper, just simply cuts the power, just put in with same side facing down as it was when you pulled it out, the actual angle isn't important.
