Otis Redding is the greatest Motown singer of all time.

You're probably familiar with his song, Sitting on The Dock of The Bay. Sadly he died in a plain crash before it was ever released. It turned out to be his most popular song.

If you like Motown at all, I suggest you check him out.

    Songs to look for:

Sitting on the Dock of the Bay
    Chained and Bound
    Ole Man Trouble

outside of the United States, is a record label specializing in the musical genres of R&B, pop, soul music, and hip-hop music. The label was originally based out of Detroit, Michigan ("Motor Town"), and is named for the city's association with the automobile industry. Motown was the first record label owned by an African American to become a widespread international success, and played an important role in the integration of popular music.
Otis Redding (September 9, 1941 – December 10, 1967) was an influential American deep soul singer, known for his passionate delivery and his posthumous hit single, "(Sittin' On) the Dock of the Bay", also one of his most respected tracks.

    Wikipedia will set you free.

Motown is almost all black artists. There newer bands aren't much, but in the 50's/60's/70's that had some awesome artists. Doowop and soul is the style.

I was reffering to deadloaders post, as it seems like he took it straight off wikepedia.

I'm telling you, Otis Redding is the man. I've never had anyone tell me they didn't like him. Even people that don't like R&B/Motown like Otis Redding.

...I don't know. but that's pretty off topic.

And Motown is a genre. It's a specific sound that Motown records became famous for. Although you're not going to find a "Motown" section at walmart, if you tell someone Motown they'll no exactly what kind of sound you mean.

But I don't think Otis Redding was signed to Motown, I believe he was with Atlantic Records. Either way his sound is typical of Motown, soul music.
