problem with text in ps

when ever i goto put text on a sig or picture it comes out really really small, you can just about make out a thin black line... :blink: :angry: its pissing me off a treat does anyone know how i can sort this problem out?

maybe restoring photoshops defaults?

all suggestions would be helpful. thanks
