In this tutorial you will use abstract brushing and a render and blending to make a cool looking sig, kinda like this

Okay, your gonna need some abstract brushes.
Look around on deviant art for some, heres a direct link
http://browse.deviantart.com/resources/app...ions/psbrushes/
Im not sure if you have to be registered to see that though, registration is free if you have to.
1. Okay now make a new document, whatever size you want, I used 400x120.
2. Filter>render>clouds the background layer
3. Make a new layer and get out your abstract brushes and brush the new layer (only use one brush for the first layer)..
4. Make another layer and do the same thing as step 3.
5. Keep doin step 4 and 3 until you like what it looks like, heres what I came up with

6. Merge all your layers together, (press ctrl+e till they are all together)
7. Now we are going to add a render, heres what I used

8. First, save that render to your desktop, then open it in adobe photoshop, then drag it to your sig, heres what I have now

9. Now whip out your polygonal lasso tool and set its feather to 30.

10. Now make a loose outline around the render and then right click, select invserse, then press delete a couple times till it looks rendered good. Pics below show.

Then select inverse and press delete a couple of times

11. Merge the render layer down (ctrl+e)
12. Now add a color balance, do this to add it

Then move the little bars around till you like the color!
13. Then with the background layer selected, edit>stroke and give it this setting

14. Add you name on to it somewhere and set the blending mode of it to soft light.
Thats it! Your done, heres my final image

The font I used on that sig is Visitor.
Hope you liked your final outcome, if you enjoy the effects used, I suggest you check out some other Background Tutorials

any chance of going more in depth in brushing techniques, as well i think its airbrushing but it could be smudging etc, and im lost, maybe previews of what each layer looks like on its own, that would be really helpful
