Hi,
new to using p/s, enjoying the tutorials.
One thing i cant manage is how to extract objects from pictures eg people from backgrounds etc.

You have to use the polygonal lasso tool. zoom in alot and outline whatever it is you want to extract then press backspace. I would suggest doing it piece by piece though, doing the whole thing at once is too risky. I hope that helped you!

I tried it and the background goes white, which is great.
How do i select the piece i cut around to be able to put it into another picture?

Welcome to the forums mate. Click 'My Controls', and you should locate a link to edit your 'Signature'. To extract people (or objects), you need to use the marquee tool, selecting around the object. If you guys have any questions, please contact me any time! I hope to see ya' around mate!

use the wand tool, click on the white then when the picture is selected go to select>inverse it... then go to edit>copy merged then edit>paste =)
