Just bought a headset, plugged it in all the right places.. and the mic STILL doesnt work..
Anything i might be missing (drivers etc)?
Thanks for any help..

go to control panel, then sounds and audio devices, then the voice tab. change voice recording to the right thing, then go to advanced and do something there, i cant go there cuz i dont have a mic right now connected.
and also if ur mic has a mute button/switch make sure its not on :P

The computer hasnt recognised the new headset and mic.. it still recognises the old one (which is NOT plugged in).. so it doesnt let me:

There is no such thing as drivers for a microphone. Avance AC97 isn't your headset/mic it's your soundcard. All you do to setup a microphone is plug it in.
Follow along:
Start>Programs>Accesories>Entertainment>Volume Control
Options>Properties>Recording> Check the Microphone box
Click OK
Make sure that the Microphone volume is now turned up to about 80%, and that the "Select" checkbox under Microphone is checked.
To test it open up Windows Sound Recorder (found in the same menu as the volume control) hit the record button and start talking. stop recording and then play it back. should be working now.
