Reformatting

Im trying to reformat a drive atm, ive backed up and all that jazz and now i need to do the deed. Ive tried right clicking and formatting on the drive that way but i have too many programs running and its takes ages for me to close them all...i was wondering if there was another way to do it, using command prompt for example i tried format c: but its asking me for the current volume label which when i type in it wont accept. im wondering if ive typed it in wrong or going about all of it the wrong way.

...what are you going to install after it's formatted?

The Windows XP install has a step where it automatically formats the drive. It's really pointless to format it yourself.

Also, you can't format a disc while you're using information on the disc.

yeah yeah, its cool ive done it now...ive lost/didnt get the xp disk with my pc so i just used the recovery disk, thanks for getting back
