Sailing-SpaceArt
Since people wanted to see me make another attempt at it...This one definately took longer than the previous :P. Water made in Terragen, boat was stock photo from searching on google. Eveything else = me in photoshop. This planet is a helluva lot more realistic i think. Nebula doesnt look to good imo but its the best i can do even after glancing at some tuts which altogether didnt help haha.

Your getting better! ^_^
You need to work on the transition between the atmosphere, and the other planet. Also, The stars are a bit "fake" looking. Work on the planet's texture too.
Good thing is that your getting better. Just keep working, and you'll be a professional in no time

Looks good.

Very nice. I see that you did a lot better on the texture of the planet this time (even though it still needs more work). The stars are much more visible now. Something I think you might need to work on is the lightning. The direction of the light seems fine but the shadow and the atmosphere or the planet seem a bit too weird like BFG mentioned. I think you should also work a bit more on randomizing the stars. They seem a bit repetative and overcrowding. Other than those, I really like your concept here. Keep going man. You can do a lot better. BTW, nice job on the water.

Ok now you just need to work on the view, WOULD a planet be that close to Earth, without everyone being dead? Would it appear that close to the horizon, do stars all have the same level of opacity? do planets really look that cartoony, do you need to use that much colour balance?
THats kinda my critique. Good ideas, just work on them more
-
I like the planet that close...its in the SCI-FICTION section for a reason...color balance? the only thing color balanced is the nebula and the damn stars which i would just as soon get rid of. Planet cartoony? wtf?
-
Not sure how you got that texture on the planet, but I agree it looks a
bit cartoony. As described in alyn's planet tutorial, take textures from different
places, clone parts, add more textures, play with blending modes, erase parts,
untill you get a nice looking texture It takes time, I know, but it's worth it.
If you want to learn how to do a nebula better, Alyn also made a nebula
article, where he included links to a couple of nebula tutorials.
How did you do the shadow on the planet? If you copy the selection of the
planet, then make a new layer, make it black it with black and then do
filter-> Gaussian Blur, you would get a better shadow. Lower the opacity on
the layer a bit to get a similiar effect to what you have now.
The stars, seems a bit repetitive as HostilePenguin said. Check out this tutorial
made by Greg Martin, where he describes how to do a realistic star field.
Good work though, you are getting better!

That looks really cool. Next step: Animation of the sailing ship
I like to think that I'm a gentleman, but I doubt that I actually am because I can be a real ass-hole at times. I try not to b**** much and I always help the unfortunate, but I really actually hate you all deep down in my heart.
