it looks nice but the brown border takes up too much space and the main part and the banner should be a little bigger/wider

too narrow (stated previously), too much empty space... instead of a filler like you used... try to make the body of your page fill up the screen more.. much like you see the forums extend to both margins of the Internet browser... also try adding a subtle border around the butterflies.. it would enhance their appearance imo...

oh and you might want to change up the butterflies for a logo of sorts.. maybe a mascot or slogan/text.. i do like the flower though... very nice separation through the navbar.

That's called a fluid layout. It's a bit harder to code, especially with layouts that are so graphic-heavy, like this one.
I think just an 800px width would be fine.

Way too small, nobody's runnin on 800x600 anymore. Typo needs work, too graphic intensive(especially in the middle), and OH MY GOD is that custom shapes?!?!??!

Actually many schools and business use that res. I've been asked to make the schools website and that is also the dimensions they request.

Now for any personaly site or gfx site I wold say a minimum of 1024x768.

Looks pretty good, though I'm not really into this style XD, I'm a whore on 3D Bars lol.

    Nice work though.

Since it's a design studio, it should be directed to noewbies who know next to nothing about design. People that stick with the default resolution, 800x600.

its nice, but it is a little narrow. I think that the red does not complement it, although the colours work together, the red looks too royal in comparison. But the butterflies look very well, nice design
