Have you learned the basic shapes and how to "build" a face? I suggest you do if you want to start with realism. It's the best way to get the perspective right and all that!

The second one is the best IMO. But do get a scanner!

I like them both. I'm no traditional artist (or even a real artist myself, but I do appreciate looking at it), but I can see a couple things that throw me off. First, however, I love the eyes. They're big, beautiful, and I can picture a really nice brown colour to go with them. You have a good sense of light source as well. The shading is done fairly well. What i see as a problem really is the proportions are a little off, and the neckline/collar on the second one just looks completely off centered.

Overall, though.. awesome stuff. Keep working at it.

The proportions look spot on to me, eyes about halfway u the face, good proportions on the noses and mouths.
    I wish I could draw a well as this. I can't, that's why I'm a photographer. lol
The only thing that doesn't look quite right, is as Fade said. The neck on the second looks a bit strange.
    Other than that, top job.

oops, i did make that slightly too small
she was slightly shifted to the side though, which is why that may look off, and i couldnt get the stupid necklace down
yeah, ive found that im not too good at head on ones
i did a profile recently and its a bit better i think, ill post the origional with it.
yes, photography is easier, i like taking pictures too
and, my eyes are a blue green with gold around the pupil, no brown though :P
