    Default Simple Meteor Thingy

Hello, all- I'm new to these forums, and this is my very first post, so I guess I should make it a good one.

I'm pretty new to Photoshop, but I love it. Ok, here's my tutorial to make a simplistic meteor-like thing:

    STEP 1
Make a new canvas, petty much any size will do, but the bigger the better, and a Square tends to look best- but that's just me. I chose 500x500 for this one.

    STEP 2
Set your foreground color to red: 255, green: 0, blue: 0.
Set your backgound color to red: 51, green: 0, blue: 0.

    STEP 3
    Make a Clouds render (Filter>Render>Clouds).
So far it should look like this:

    STEP 4
Throw a lens-flare on there, in the lower-right hand corner, with the brightess set at around 125.
    Should now like this:

    STEP 5
Add some lighting effects (Filter>Render>Lighting Effects). Here are my settings:

    STEP 6
To add more sense of motion, what better to add than a Motion Blur? (Filter>Blur>Motion Blur). My settings are having the Angel set at -47, and the Distance set at 27, but your Angel setting may vary.

    FINAL RESULT
    Here it is, you Meteor-sortta-looking-thing-a-ma-bob:

Admitidly, it is pretty simple and 2D-looking, but like I said, I'm pretty new to Photoshop, and I just made this up in Web Design Class while the teacher was talking.

    Anyways, thoughts?

PS: Is this in the right Forum? Sorry if it isn't.

nice technique. but i would desaturate und recolor because for well trained eyes that typical ps lens flare is still obvious

I'd say smudge it to create more of a unique shape.

This is what i managed to rumble up lol
Stars were made with noise filter then adjusting the levels to make them look like stars then i inserted a pic of a meteor onto the lens flare, set to overlay , then the earthy type pic was inserted :P
