How to not use brushes
I've heard much chatter about not using brushes in sigs. How in the world do i not use brushes for a sig? The only thing i can think of is throwing the render in front of a stock...
Explain please!

First, wrong forum.
Anyhow...there are many other options than brushes. Most people here I think prefer you at least make your own brushes if you are going to use them. There's many other ways to make a sig without using them. Duplicating renders, using filters on them, smudging them, using c4d's, line tool, custom shape tool and so on. Experiment with different things in photoshop and you'll catch on.
Thanks.
Prick.

You COULD use filters, but not recommended.
I think vector gives a good effect (pen tool) Possibly with a few filters.
Duplicating then distorting renders etc.
Just use your imagination.

what the hell is wrong with brushes though?

nothing. if they aren't your own though, then you shouldn't be considering your piece completely yours because you had to use someone else's resource. that's why some people look down on brushes.
and yeah, pen tool.

Then u could say the same thing about using renders, fonts etc....
I see nothing wrong with using brushes, I dont use them much anymore i gone smudge crazy lol but if u wanna use them then y not, making sigs is meant to be fun just do what u wanna do on ur own sigs if ur happy with the outcome then thats job done.

brushes aren't your own work (unless you're making your own brushes.)
other ways to make something would be-
filters
smudging
clipping masks
pen tooling
brushing (with default brushes)
using other pieces of stock
etc.
someone should move this to graphic discussion

totally agree. Unless, that is, you draw/cut out all your own renders from wallpapers, make your own C4D, design your own fonts, etc. I personally dont use brushes much at all anymore, I've also gone smudge crazy I just dont feel they make for a great BG.

you could also say that about using photoshop for sigs because you didn't make photoshop OTHER PEOPLE DID
haha i'm just repeating the general opinion about downloaded brushes. don't entirely agree with it (partly for the same reasons as wom), but it is true to an extent.
about renders, they're easy enough to cutout with the pen tool so why bother when there are pre-cut ones out there. same goes for text. there's no fine line between original and used resources.

my point of view:
i just don´t like sigs which use brushes i know or even have by myself. i mean there is nothing wrong about using them, but at a certain level the artis should be able to use brushes in a smart way that is not obvious at all.
