pretty basic textures, and very basic render.. looks like a default generation.... try using world machine to get better slopes and details in the terrain iteself, check deviantart for tutorials for both the 3d and texture parts of terragen... they help alot...

just messing around with the program can only do so much to help you. Tutorials are a great way to start.

There's no real use to waste time making the terrain in terragen itself, mainly because it is hard to get a good result
(unless you are very skilled with all the options), and it is so time consuming.

World-Machine is good, but much things and options are left out if you don't have the version you will
have to pay for. Another great option is GeoControl, which I use nowadays. Then of course, you can
always do minor edits in terragen itself.

A while ago, Terragen 2 Tech Preview was released so give that a try.

About your image; as said before, it looks quite basic. Keep in mind, the main thing that makes
a render look good is the surface layers you use in terragen, and the edits you make in photoshop afterwards.
