Default Poster Design :: theater ensemble, help with ideas?

I'm making a poster for our high school's theater ensemble, but I'm not exactly sure where it's going.

The play, Antigone, is a modernized version of the one Sophocles wrote, and the theme is the consequence of war.

Does anyone have ideas on a general poster design and layout, or any comments on what I have so far? I was thinking of silhouettes of war related images coming out from the splatters in gray and black, but I'm not sure how I'll get that. I think the posters are being printed on normal A4 paper, and I don't know if I'm allowed to use color or not (but I'm staying in b&w for now.)

Sorry for the random text in places, I put those there so I wouldn't forget to add it in in the final poster. =] And I know that it's not A4 sized now, I'm trying to get a general idea for a poster first before I start working big. :3

I like the layout of the poster, but a few things could be adjusted, as you'll hear from people after me. First, the 'Antigone' and 'the consequences of war' text is down right smokin. Great fit. Buuuuut the 'tickets: $10' isn't scratched up like the others. I realize you might be trying to have it stand out more, but it looks a little funky.

Also, the over-contrasted american flag is a little TOO over contrasted.

I'll leave comments on the text up in the top left to the others, but I think you're heading in the right idea with it, it's just not quite there; definitely make it a little bigger though.

I like how it looks thus far. The chaos from the grunge definitely screams "war", but the text position is just a little off. Like, the information. Keep the alignment under "Antigone" for all the information. and as far as the "Albany High School Theater Presents" Shift it down to about halfway down the page.

Thanks you guys =] I realize that the actual play info is plain old georgia or whatever font right now, I need to fix that up. I'll mess around with the placement later, I'm more worried about the actual image for now though. =] I'll see what I can do after I finish my english homework, hah.

Is 72ppi a good enough resolution for this printed out on some A4 printer paper? Or should I increase it..? I have no idea, I'd love to get some advice on that before I start working on it more, because I need to make this bigger :3

Never print at less than 300dpi.

was gonna say the same. 300 is typical for print. 72 is for like... stuff on screen. i.e. bad for print :|

since you're just asking about the image rather than text i say it could be final now. may look good with your idea as well, but the simplicity here is pretty effective in my opinion. so careful not to overcomplicate it... i like the current look if you do continue this with your idea be sure to compare it back to this version, make sure it's an actual improvement as opposed to adding stuff just for the sake of it, and maybe overdoing it.

i think the positioning on the main text is fine, just the "albany high theatre ensemble" which i'm sure you just threw on at the end anyway heh.

and about your idea, it might be kind of hard... if you want them blended with the stuff you have going on already. maybe solid black would work? this is in a kind of similar grunge style, if it gives you any ideas.

Looks good so far. Im going to have to agree with jeff and say that the simplicity is VERY effective. Like evryone else said, just work on the font. Great job.

I brought it to the ensemble afterschool today, and everyone seemed to like it. Once I get more of the info about the actual play, I'll update it some more. Thanks for everyone's feedback so far ♥

Too much white in the upper left of the peice.. if it was mine i'd do some really light stuff there, just to fill it somewhat.

But i like the txt =)
not sure about "the albany high theatre ensemble presents" font..
