Default PS7 Freezes when using motion blur, any help?

    Hey Guys,

I'm new, I'm self taught and just usually do tuts and then make my own spin offs. I'm having a bit of trouble and wanted to see if anyone could possibly give me a fix.

Basically, in any sig I'm working on, I go to do a motion blur filter. So it's Filter>Blur>Motion Blur. At which point my lay blurs, but the box that allows me to edit the amount of blur and location no longer appears. This basically freezes my photoshop because for the layer to set, that box needs to be given the ok, but it no longer appears on my screen.

Anyone know what has happened? Any ideas how I can get the box back onto my screen so I can set the layer and continue on with the signature?

Any help would be tremendous, thanks so much to anyone who takes the time to give me a hand.

    Cheers,
    -Wes

Do you own a legal version of Photoshop? If not then it might just be an error in the program as it is a cracked version. Have you tried reinstalling? It usually fixes these small errors. I've never had this problem myself so I can't say exactly what to do. But try reinstalling. If that doesn't work maybe we can find another way around it.

It's a legal version, I'll try and do a reinstall overhaul and see if that helps. Thanks so much =)

Alright, so I reinstalled PS7 and I've encountered the same problem. I'm thinking that maybe a setting has been messed with or something that is causing me to not be able to see the box to set the layer? Any advice?

Hmm ok. Are you using CS3? Try this:
Go to your Photoshop folder and then Plug-ins\Adobe Photoshop Only\Extensions. If there is a plug-in called AltiVecCore there, try moving it to another folder where Photoshop can't find it. Then try again.

how big is the file your blurring on? How much ram do you have on your computer and also what else do you have running when using photoshop?

its most-likely just you have to much going. i know i like to have MSN AIM itunes firefox and photoshop all open at the same time and it freezes up a lot cause of that.

There is a known error like this though. I've read about people having this problem and I think the only known solution is the one I posted. If it works..

Thanks for both of the tips.

As for my machine, I'm running on an Alienware laptop, about a year old. 2 gigs of memory. I closed all programs besides Photoshop and it still ran into my problem.

    Matrin-
I did what you suggested, but I'm running photoshop 7, not CCS. My photoshop extensions folder did not have that plug in.

I've been doing some searching, but I still can't find a solution.

If it helps at all, when I do the blur filter, my cursor turns to a square and I can right click with it, and it has options such as fit to frame. I've tried just about everything and I'm really stuck. If anyone knows a place where I could find more photoshop help or info, that would be amazing. And thanks again for the help =D

Ok, then there are two possibilities:
Either call Adobe's Photoshop support center to get help or download a different motion blur plug-in, if there is any.

Edit: You could also try to download a trial of CS3 and see if you get the same problem.

it could also be your cpu ?virtual memory could be coming up short.. even a virus could do something like this.. perhaps it sounds like a problem with your video card to be honest.. direct draw or something, you might want to update your drivers or even downgrade them.. sometimes updates have problems.. i'm currently working through getting star wars galaxies to work and i know it worked on my original settings so a full system restore could help. try all or one of these at a time
