Watercolor and pencil portrait

tried to take ROTD's advice with coloring
the bg was meant to go from darkest to lightest but unfortunately the colors ran into each other whilst drying

Ever tried using a mirror or live model? You will produce a more natural and accurate portrait after time than using a reference photo. The shape of the face is good, but the shading is weak, the face looks incredibly flat, and you need to practise using watercolours.

Start simple, portraits are very advanced - begin just trying out gradients, building up shading (both with pencils and watercolours)

I like the colours you used.

love it. colours are fantastic, you have a great eye for detail.
also bear in mind that rob's criticism holds truth, albeit it is quite direct. the shading is a tad lax, but who can achieve perfection anyway
