this is looking pretty nice. Nice job on the BG and the text is looking great but with some tweaking it could be perfect.
I think you should take the gray Impact text and make it a bit bigger, make it white or a bright color and then lower the opacity. This will allow the other text to show up better.
Then on the text above and below the white impact i think you should lower the opacity a bit but not a lot and change the color to a light blue or red. I think this would connect it a bit better with the sig. However your use of fonts is great and you seem like you really get the jist of it!

The blending between the Bg and render needs a bit of work. Mario, when rendered 3D like this is very smooth so it is hard to connect him to a grungy BG, however i think you can do it with a few clipping masks and such.

Finally I think you should add alight source, you have such prominent highlights on mario it would be a shame not to capitalize that and make the sig feel like one. In this case i think it would be from the general vicinity of the star.

Good job on the BG though, your showing great improvement on text and the border is looking good, nice coloring too.
