I just found out this today so spare me the critique if you dont like the effect.

    1. Duplicate your brush layer.
    2. Go to FILTERS>RENDER>FIBERS and enter following settings
    1st one: 12
    2nd one: 1
    3. Click ok
4.Now go to EDIT:FADE FIBERS and choose somewhere between 93-97.
5.Now start deleting little parts, not a lot just a little.
    6. Now go to FILTERS>SHARPEN>SHARPEN
    7. Combine both layers and if desired to the Sharpen again
8.Now you should have a good mettalic effect , wich adds more texture to the whole brush , but I have figured out it doesnt work too well with all grunge brushes.
    9.Enjoy but please dont redistribute

    Hope I helped someone . B) B)

But I'll try out those steps you gave.
