if i take a layer and put it in hard light, how do i keep it the way it looks while still being able to change the background.

like for example, i made a brown grunge background and put a gundam render in front of it. i changed the render layer to hard light and it looks REALLY kickass. now what i want (NEED) to do is put a planet behind the gundam. when i put it there, the gundam changes appearance because of the blending option, but i want it to look the way it was before. how do i do this?

taking a screenshot and then cut+pasting it back onto the original canvas is out of the question since the render is beyond my skill to extract like that.

ok, i got it. Ctrl click the render, so that it selects what it is, then go to your planet layer, and delete it, just the gundam selection so that it will make it so the gundam is reacting with the brown bg.
