LaughLab, an Internet experiment into humor, was conducted by psychologist Richard Wiseman, University of Hertfordshire, Hatfield, Hertfordshire, UK, and the British Association for the Advancement of Science. Running from September 2001 to October 2002, the project collected over 40,000 jokes submitted from the worldwide public, and around 2 million votes were cast on what was the funniest.
The winning joke, as voted for on www.laughlab.co.uk, was:
A couple of New Jersey hunters are out in the woods when one of them falls to the ground. He doesn't seem to be breathing, his eyes are rolled back in his head. The other guy whips out his cell phone and calls the emergency services. He gasps to the operator: “My friend is dead! What can I do?” The operator, in a calm soothing voice says: “Just take it easy. I can help. First, let's make sure he's dead.” There is a silence, then a shot is heard. The guy's voice comes back on the line. He says: “OK, now what?"

 You're kidding me...ok
The guy on the phone shot the guy on the floor to MAKE SURE he was dead. He took what the people over the phone said literally.

My High School Marching band is probably gonna be in the guinness book of world records, for largest marching band in the world, but we aren't sure yet (it consists of 640 members). I am in the drumline/pit.
On Topic: I have heard much better jokes, and that joke isn't all that funny (yes i understand the joke). I have heard it about 2 years ago also.
