How do i use shapes in PS and what are they?
-
ok, shapes are shapes, and are found under the text tool (the one with the "T" on it) you right click on the rectangle tool, which is the shape on for now, and select custom shape tool, what it does is make shapes for you to use on your work, or just to buggerise around with

Creating shapes is just using another mode of the pen tool. The pen tool works in handling selections, but it also deals with shapes.

With the pen tool selected, click the button on the top left, that I have circled in red. Then, if you've used the pen tool before you should know the procedure, make your shape (photoshop will create a shape layer, because shapes can only be made on a shape layer). As you draw the shape, it will automatically be filled in with your foreground color. This, aside from text, is one of the only things in photoshop that is actually vector. After making a shape, you can size up and size own your shape as much as you want and you will not lose quality. To hide your path once you've finished, press ctrl+h. If you want the path visible, just press ctrl+h again. Hopefully that clears it up a little bit.
