i realize this is a hard topic too justifie( excuse my spelling), even though i put all metal bands, i wish i put led zeppelin somewhere in there but theres only 5 so......( nice pick anyway smiling demon )

Hmmm, a hard pick since my taste in music is ripped in half between two genres which are completely different, and one doesn't really involve "bands". So i'd define it as artists, and put on my favorite 2 of each genre:

1. Children of Bodom
2. In Flames

3. Ludwig Van Beethoven
4. J.S Bach

Tool, The Mars Volta, Lightning Bolt, Portishead, Nine Inch Nails, Massive Attack, My Bloody Valentine, ISIS, Queens of the Stone Age, Autolux, Aphex Twin, Failure, At the Drive-In, Melt Banana...

the list could go on. Although currently all I've been listening to is a mix between My Bloody Valentine, Blonde Redhead, and Autolux.
