Adobe Illustrator Pen Tool Help Please!

I am trying to make this logo for my parent's business, and I usually just always use photoshop, but to make the edges more neat someone told me to use Illustrator.

The pen tool is driving me insane. Sometimes it will draw around the triangle fine, and most the time it does this:




it like fills up and wont go around in a Triangle like i am trying to get it to do.

Some help would be fabulous

make sure that you have no fill for your fill pallete. it should look like a red line going across when you put no selection for you fill. sorry if this is vague.

see the green square on your color pallet?
click on the little clear box with the red \ threw it and it will make it so it dosnt have a fill color its right before the color bar clicker thing
