What do you guys know about Poser?

My friend recently got a copy of the Poser software (usually $250, but he got it free through the army), and he can make some really nice stuff pretty quickly through it. Here's some of his works:






I was wondering what you folks knew about this, and if it was a worthy investment.

For me personally, poser would only be useful for making poses for my to then vector. If you want to get into 3d work, usually people go to Maya, or C4D, and such.
