stocks/renders???

ok so i have got photoshop cs3 today, so im a bit of a noob, made a few simple sigs, on all the signature tutorials it always says to add your "stock" which im guessing is a background image and then to add your "render" which im guessing is kind of like a secondard image or a foreground image, BUT the tutorials never say where to get them... can someone suggest websites where i can get some stocks and renders??? ive used a few renders off planetrenders which is ok, basic halo images etc... can some1 suggest a few sites please, so i can start following these tutorials ive been reading... thanks
