I think you might have missed a couple steps somewhere. I'm not 100% sure on how to do it properly either, but I know that's not what the final product should look like. Maybe check up on some more tutorials and keep working at it.

The picture you used might be part of the problem as well. I think it might work better with less blur in the background.

yagh! over contrast over saturation! No worries though its not looking to bad. I do see quite a few flows in this however.

First off to think about an HDR: High dynamic Range; adding multiple exposures together of the same picture to get perfect exposures for almost all if not all of the picture.
After thinking about that definition the first thign i notice is the background, A it's got an AMAZING DOF, and B Some of it is rather blown out.

Now if you took this picture you deserve a pat on the back cause its amazing. However if you didnt, good spot anyway you obviously have great taste in images.

This however is not the image you would like for an hdr. Hdr's shouldnt have such a massive DOF. The goal of an HDR is to INCREASE the range over what the typical camera can do, giving it a lifelike look. With a big depth of feild liek this it's impossible.

now here's houw you should attempt to do it:
    1. Get a picture and get 3-5-7 whatever number of exposures you want. Always having one good exposure one too high one really high, one too low and one really low. Shooting in RAW right now really helps with that step.

    2. Take them into photomatix or photoshop. Add them all together and then adjust what contrast and everythign you want to make it perfect, while oversaturation and over contrast may be common factors in HDR, it is NOT nessescary.

3rd. take it into photoshop and touch it up to make it look really life like. in photoshop some artists liek dave hill just blow it out of the water and make it look insane.

    Thats basically it.
not a bad try, at it but i do see some blown out area in the background, and i didnt really see a higher dynamic range so i dont think we really accomplished the goal. but with some touching up ti'd still be a pretty cool image.

i hope you dont take this personally i'm just trying to help. lemme know if you have any questions.
