Cid In The City
A fan fiction I created like 7-8 months ago on another forum I hang at. I finally decided to bring it here, breathe some life into this section, y'know. Hope you guys like.
Any constructive comments are appreciated.
I'll start off by posting one chapter. ^_^
C H A P T E R 1
Cid was sitting in his chair, reading a book when he heard a shout. "Cid, the van is here!" Excited, Cid jumped from the chair and rushed downstairs. When he got there, he saw his mother getting together his suitcases. A man was at the door, tapping his foot impatiently.
"I haven't got all day lady. I have to pick up me wife at six." The man said in a thick, scottish accent.
"I hear ya, just hold on. Cid, please help me out here." His mother said.
"Of course Mum. Sorry" Cid apologised and helped out. Being very happy about his scholarship to a college in New York, Cid was very absent minded in the past few days. After the suitcases were packed neatly and stacked, Cid stepped forward and kissed his mother on the cheek. Asking what that was for, Cid replied asking if a son can't kiss his own mother. Blushing, she grabbed her son and hugged him.
"I'm so proud of you. Look at you, going off to college. Ya did more than anyone in this family."
"Aww mum." Cid blushing "If it weren't for you and Dad, I could never get this oppurtunity."
"And that's why you better get a degree or else we'll kill ya." She said seriously and then changed her tone "You studied hard and did ya school work. You always looked ahead to better things. You got here on yer own. We played only a minor role."
Cid very red now, bowed his head to the ground. While he was really happy that he was going off to college, he felt guilty about leaving his father and mother to manage the family farm on their own. He started off to speak his thoughts but his mother cut him off.
"Do not worry about the farm. Your father and I will manage. We're not invalids." She said looking understandingly at Cid.
"But -" Cid started off "But who'll look after the financial fundings and such? Your eye-sight is somewhat failing and Dad can't read."
"We've taken care of that. Your cousin Mike is really good with numbers and such. He'll manage that area, besides, he's been bugging us to give him a job for like, forever."
Cid, reassured that Mike, who also went to college and did good but decided to come back and help his family, was taking over from him. Finally readied, he got his suitcases and headed off to the door.
"Oh yeah. Send Dad my love." Cid said.
"I will. And study hard." Cid's mum said "Yer Dad and I spent some money for you to take the exam. We want results."
"Don't worry Mum. You'll see 'em." Cid replied soothingly. He rushed back, pecked his mother on the cheek. Looked at his mother one last time and rushed through the door.
"Finally." The taxi man grunted.
---------------------------------------------
The van was rushing through pack of cars on the highway, with the speed looming threatingly at the limit. "This man must really be in a hurry." Cid thought. He watched the other cars pass by through his window. Everything felt like a dream to Cid but he knew when he step off the plane and onto the land of junk food and 'liberty', he know that will be the moment. The moment when everything begins to come together and it won't feel like a dream anymore.
They arrived at the airport. After unloading, Cid thanked and payed the man and took a look at the schedules. His flight wasn't due to leave until the next hour. Going into a line and verifying his flight and everything, Cid began to relive the moments in his mind from when he took the test till now. He remembered how nervous he was waiting to go into the classroom to take the exam. While waiting, he met three other students who were taking it as well. They all shared in his anxiety and were talking about their goals in life. The invigilator opened the door and looked around. "They're supposed to five children taking the exam. Why am I only seeing four?" She wondered. Thinking it best to ask, she questioned the four children if they saw another person who is supposed to be taking the exam with them. All of them replied no. At the moment a boy rushed through the entrance of the facility breathing hard. He had white neck-length hair and pale skin. His eyes were gray and cold.
"Sorry about that Ma'am. I missed the bus on my way to the village and had to run the rest of the distance." He said panting and weezing.
"Very well. Now that all five of you are here, we can now take the exam. Come on inside." The invigilator said staring at the boy.
Three of the children went inside but Cid stood there staring at the child. His clothes were ragged and had numerous stiches in them, both shirt and trousers. Missed the bus? No, Cid doubted that highly. It was then the child's eyes set on his and Cid knew those weren't kind eyes. He felt as those he and the boy knew each other and at the same time didn't. It was like fate had played a hand at the day's meeting.
What did you think of the first chapter?

Cid In The City
Chapter Two
Both of the boys stared at each other for what seem like eternity. Neither of their gazes flinched from each other's. It seemed as though they were having some type of internal fight and both were struggling to come out on top. Suddenly, the invigilator barked "Are you two lovers!? Get in here!". Both were startled and finally dropped their gazes but the pressure was definitely there. Even the invigilator felt it and became wary of the two in case there was a fight.
Cid took a seat in the middle of the class and sat down. The necessary stationery such as pencil etc. were stationed at their desks. Cid being bored, started to play aroung with them. At that moment, the boy passed Cid. It was like a spark ignited and Cid jumped from his seat.
"Excuse me! This ridiculous behaviour between you two is unacceptable!" the invigilator angrily said "One more outburst like that and you will not take be taking this exam!!"
Cid snapped back to focus. He was surprised when he found himself standing up and was even more surprised when he saw the boy right in his face.
"Didn't you just hear what I said?" the invigilator snapped "Sit down!"
Cid, not hearing what the invigilator said before sat down, knowing if he did not take this exam, his parents would string him up on a tree and go KKK on him. The boy decided to take his seat at the back of room, in the same row as Cid. Cid could've felt his cold, relentless stare at the back of his head but ignored it. "Come on Cid, this is shit. You doing an entrance exam for heaven's sake. Settle." Cid said to himself in order to calm hiself down. The invigilator then explained the rules of the examination.
"This is the college entrance exam into the facility of Unlimited Talent of Arts, which has recently opened in New York City. You five students, each chosen from different schools by your senior teachers, and by paying a fee will be taking this exam. If score over 75% in this exam, you shall be entered into the college, if you do not, you will not be entered. Simple as that. To the exam now. The exam will be three and a half hours long. It shall have four sections, in which all questions in the first three sections are compulsory. The fourth section contains optional questions in which you can choose what you want to answer. The sections are as follows: English Language, Mathematics, English Literature. The fourth section is: Computer analysis; Art; Basic Mechanical Engineering. When the papers are handed out to you, you'll ten extra minutes to review the questions. During that time you may start the paper. I wish you the best of luck."
The papers were handed out and when Cid received his, he face turned into a irksome smirk. "These questions will provide no threat to me. I can do this!!". Wanting know what his 'nemesis' perceived of it, he decided to chance a look behind at him. He couldn't see his face because he had already started the paper. His face was almost touching the paper, he was that focused. "Damn." Cid thought to himself "He really wants that scholarship. He may be not that bad. I'll try to make up with him later". With that said, Cid started working on the paper.
Three and a half hours later. Put all pencils, pens and stationery on the desk. The exam is over. Everyone had pretty much finished an hour before and had either gone to sleep or gazing in deep thought. Either way, they didn't pay the lady much attention. After everyone got outside the room, they began to chat animatedly about the paper. Everyone was confident that they did well. Cid was no different. He looked through the window and saw outside that his father was waiting for him. He turned around and saw the boy, again, looking at him intensely. Determined to finish this, Cid walked up to him.
"Hello there mate. What's yer name?" Cid asked
The boy simply stared at Cid as though he was an Eighth wonder. Cid could not hide his irritation but he gritted his teeth and asked again.
"Hey mate. I asked your name." Cid said as politely as he could.
The boy finally replied "Drew". And with that he sauntered off towards the exit without looking back. When he passed through the doors, a gale of wind passed by, making the other students say it's cold and deciding to wait for their lifts in the Lounge but Cid stood there in wonder. When he got outside, Drew was nowhere in sight...
------------------------------------------
"Hey Dad. I met a bloke today." Cid said to his father. He and his Dad were going for a little drive through the forest area near the family farm. His father was at the wheel.
"Oh really. What about him?" Dad asked.
"Nothing much. A weird one he is."
"Weird? Did you even get a name?"
"Yeah. It's Drew. Anti-social he is." Cid said bitterly.
"Well, a scholarship was up for grabs. The tension does get to people you know son." Dad said smoothly.
"Nah. It's different." Cid maintained his ground "While everyone else was chattin' their mouths off, he comes in panting like a seaman who've seen the Loch Ness." Cid fixed his seat belt. "Nearly got kicked out of the examination too."
SCREEEEEEEEEEEEECH!!!!!!!! The car came to a sudden halt. Cid's father pressed his foot on the brakes so hard, it seemed as though the mechanism itself were about to break. Cid's father face was screwed with anger and his jaw was set. Cid uncertainly looked around at his father. He gulped at the terrifying figure before him.
"What did you say?" Cid's father spoke in a barely audible whisper.
"Umm, dad -" Cid was very nervous. "It was a - a joke. Just a joke father..." He ended off lamely.
"... A joke. You call that a joke?" Cid's father suddenly moved to his side and slapped Cid around his head. His hands were heavy "Don't ever, ever joke around me with something as important as that. I'm clear?"
"Yes sir."
Throughout the rest of the drive, Cid said nothing at all. His father was a man who meant well and cared for his family deeply, but when it came with money, ignoring the fact he couldn't count, he never risked anything, even if his wife was who dealt with it, he always made her double check everything. He was very unwilling to pay for the exam to begin with. He only managed to be convinced by Cid's school principal, Cid's constant nagging and finally, his wife's intervention. His wife's word he trusted. No one else's. His faith in her was resolute. Cid, who at the time was still startled by his father. "Good thing I lied. Had he known I really came close with being disembarred, he probably would've killed me there and then and hide my body deep in the forest." Cid though so very frightenly and decided it would be best to choose his words carefully from then until the results came back. The drive home was very forlorn, at least in Cid's opinion.
----------------------------------------
"Back at home already?" Cid's mother greeted them "I thought you were planning to drive around longer? I haven't even finshed dinner yet." Cid kissed his mother and sat down in a couch in the living room; he heaved a loud sigh. His father, who had just kissed his mother came inside and found Cid breezing. He looked at him incredously.
"Boy you. Get yer ass upstairs!" He thundered "Wash yer hands, come back down and help yer mum with dinner."
"Yes sir!" Cid was scared to get his father angry again and scurried upstairs as fast as he could.
"Dear, something wrong?" Cid's mum inquisited. Cid's dad grunted "No". He then said he going by the 'brook' to cool off, noting it was mighty hot. It was fall in Scotland and he's hot...
The sound of something hitting a board was all you could hear in the Jule's home. It was awfully silent and Cid meant for it to be that way. He didn't feel like talking at it all. Earlier that morning, he imagined the home to be filled with animated talks about the exam but after what happened in the afternoon, Cid felt as though he messed it up. His mother who was boiling rice watched his son every now and then. She looked at the way he chopped the vegetables, and would then look at his face. Deciding the silence must end, she spoke.
"Alrighty then. Let me have it?" She asked.
"Have what? The knife?" Cid honestly had no clue and held out the knife to his mother.
"Boy, don't let me scorch you with this boiling pot," She picked up the pot threatingly. (Writer's note - Seems as though a temper issue runs through the family xD) "What happened today?"
Cid sighed and fully explained what happened today. Both the exam and car incidents. When he was finished, he looked at his mother uncertainly. She didn't seemed impressed at all but she didn't look angry either. She sighed, walked foward to Cid and ruffled his hair affectionately.
"Cid, Cid." She said "I can't believe you did what you nor what you told your father. I can't say I'm not dissapointed."
Cid felt ashamed and bowed his to the ground. "Sorry Mum."
She tilted Cid's head up and winked at him "But I would've done the same thing and lied to him. Your father can be a wild beast when he wants to. His friends gave him the nickname Baby Loch Ness." She chuckled.
"He ever roared at you before?" Cid asked.
"Heck no." She replied, pretending to be affronted "He knows better that I would stab and throw his body in the lake. He would never risk it!" She chuckled again.
Cid felt alot more happier than he felt all day. His mother, while having a bit of a temper just like his Dad, she always cheered him up when he was down. The woman was Cid's heart and he Cid loved her unconditionally. "Well, what you're looking at" She said suddenly "Continue chopping the carrots,". "Right. Sorry.". Cid apologised and began chopping the carrots but his mother interrupted him again.
"Oh yes! By the way, Nina came by today, but you had already gone."
"Shit!" Cid exclaimed. He cut his finger when he heard the name Nina. HIs mother exasperated and told him to wash his cut, that she'll deal with the vegetables. Cid went to the bathroom and turned the faucet on. He let water go over his cut finger but he never turned off the faucet. All he could think about was Nina.

Wow, nice comments I'm getting. Glad you like. Here is chapter 3 mates.
Cid In The City
Chapter Three
All three of the Jules are together at the dinner table. Cid's father came back a little before the dinner was finished. He apologised to his wife for his rude and sudden behaviour. "He seem rather calm now," Cid thought but at that same moment, his father set his eyes on Cid. Cid felt scared but then his father gave him a nod. Cid at first was a little startled at first. He took it as a "I'll-deal-with-you-later" type of nod but then he looked at his father's poise and expression. There was no anger or contempt showing, just calm and peaceful. Cid then realised that this was his father's way of telling him sorry, his way of "apologizing". Cid nod back to show he understands. His father saw it, grinned and told him to help fix the table, and then joked about if he wants them(father and mother) to eat on the floor. Both Cid and his mother chuckled. It was nice for them to have their father back to his senses because they knew he loved them and he knew they loved him back.
Throughout the dinner, Cid's mother and father were contemplating on Cid's needs and wants if he got the scholarship to the college. While talking about this, Cid raced through his dinner like a beast who hasn't eaten for days. Before they could even reached a conclusion, Cid had already finished his dinner. They were only halfway through their plate. Cid's mother commented.
"Great Merlin!" Cid's mother exclaimed "If were you going to wolf down your food like that, you might as well go out and eat with the wolves."
"Ha ha Mum. Your puns are still lame." Cid laughed
"But I say is true. You're just like your grandfather Vorg. Raced down his food like a bullet." His mother said.
"They named him rightly so don't you think dear?" Cid's father popped in "What is your reason for being a scottish wolf Cid?"
Cid thought their puns were extremely bad and lame, heck everyone thought so but he ignored it and answered "I'm meeting up with Nina at the Circle later this evening. She'll want to know how the exam went." He said it rather uninterestingly but he couldn't fool his parents. They looked at each other, then Cid roared with laughter. His father continued his assault on Cid.
"You sure about that?" He started "You might end up puking on her than rather tell her about your day."
"Knowing that stomach of yours," Cid's mother joined in "You might puke half-way through your chat."
The two of them continued to catch a fit. While Cid did find it funny in a way, their jokes did have truth. Cid had a very bad stomach. Whenever he would eat fast and then go and do something active such as play a sport or even talking, he always threw up his food. His parents told him he inherited his grandfather, Vorg, traits. It isn't something he thought of proudly and he usually ate a slow pace so his food could settle but tonight, he had to meet Nina, even if it meant puking mid-way in their date.
"Oooooh. Lookie here dear," His father was relentless "He is serious. He really wants to puke on her."
"Uh-huh," His mother replied "They should puking a sport. You're so good at it, you'll be a legend, ha ha ha."
The laughter continued. Deciding he couldn't take it anymore and that it was time, he told his parents bye (They didn't hear him, guess why ;]) and walked through the door. When he left the gates of his home, he could still hear the laughter. "Such a merry couple they are," he thought with a smile and with that, he hurried to the meeting place.
-----------------------------------------
It was seven o'clock when he reached the village circle. Nina hadn't got there yet. Cid decided to sit on the edge of the village fountain and wait for her. He was thinking what words he should choose to say to her as there was something else he wanted to tell her. He and Nina were childhood friends and grew up on separate farms. While they're families were rival farms, the competition was healthy and friendly and both families were close with each other. Cid had liked Nina very much since they were toddlers but was unsure if Nina would return those feelings. As time passed by, those feelings developed very strong and Cid still did not know if Nina liked him still. Chances were that Cid might leave Scotland to go to America to go to college, but he didn't want to leave without telling Nina how he felt. Tonight was his chance.
"Cid!" A voice shouted out in the darkness.
"Nina! I nearly thought you weren't coming," Cid went to greet her.
"Really? You think I would do something like that on you?" She asked, her pose somewhat stiff
"Err - No. Nothing like that. I was only joking." Cid chuckled nervously. It was the second time he lied today but lying to Nina felt different to Cid than lying to his father. At the moment, the village circle light came on. It was a beautiful sight to behold the lime-green rays of light shining down on the fountain and the circle. The romantic feeling that was there by the fountain was the main reason why dates were held at the Circle. Cid, who could now see Nina clearly in the light. Nina's beauty seemed to multiply in lights in the Circle. Nina was seventeen years of age. She had fair skin with hazel eyes. She had back-length, brown hair. She had a good body as well; firm, medium sized breast, good hips with a nice behind. Cid goggled at the elegant figure before him. To him, it was like seeing a goddess he could only read about in fairy tales.
"Umm, Cid. You 'kay?" Nina asked uncertainly.
Cid snapped out of the trance. "Yea, yea. Sorry about that. It just seemed as though you looked extra beautiful in the lights, thats all." He ended off lamely and with his head bowed to the ground. His face was turning red.
"He he he. Haaaaaaa, you always have your way with words." She said winking at him "Thanks."
Cid felt as though someone put him in an oven. He was feeling really hot and he was really blushing. "Y - Ye - Yea."
Nina pretended not to notice Cid's apparent "dilema" and changed the subject "Yea, so how the exam went?"
Cid was thankful for the question as it seemed to help him a recover a bit "Yea, it went smooth. Want to hear more?"
"Sure."
Cid used this as an oppurtunity to settle down and get ready for the real reason he called her there. He told her what happened from when the exam began, including all the questions he could've remembered to when it ended. Nina was impressed with the way Cid handled the exam and was happy for him to get a chance to go to college.
"Lucky you." Nina said. "I'm really happy for you."
"Yea. Thanks Nina." Cid thought this was the chance "Umm, Nina, I got something to tell you."
"Okay. Give me it."
Cid took a deep breath and cleared his mind. "This was it. She must know." he thought in his head.
"Umm, Cid. You're going to tell me or not?" She asked seeming a bit impatient now.
"Yea right." Cid took a deep breath "Nina, for a long time now, I've had these feelings, and throughout the years, they have developed so strongly that I can't hold them in anymore," He thought he was going good and decided he could do it "Nina... I'm in - *hurl*
Shit! That was all Cid could think. It happened. What his parents predicted actually came through: He puked. Nina manage to avoid being vomited on but she found it funny.
"Cid. You rushed your food down, didn't you?" Nina said rather knowingly. She knew all of Cid's traits. As a matter of fact, she knew Cid like a book.
"Nina, I'm - *hurl*," He puked some more. Nina, who thought it was getting rather late took this as her cue to leave.
"Okay Cid." Nina grinned "That's my time. Good night, and don't rush your food next time." She teased. And with that she skipped her way home. Cid was left stranded still puking by the fountain. By time he finished, he realised that Nina was gone. Feeling dissapointed at the lack of success he had that night, he slowly walked home.
"Damn you Vorg..." Cid said venegefully
------------------------------------------------
Two weeks passed since that unfortunate incident with Nina. Cid was very heart broken about his failure to tell Nina his real feelings and when he got home that night, his parents made it no better. When they heard about Cid's messed up night, God, did they bawl! They were laughing so hard and loud that a village guard who was doing night patrol around their area had to intervene and told them to keep quiet, that they'll wake up the villagers. After that incident, to keep his mind off things, Cid worked extra hard in doing chores around the farm. It was difficult but it kept his mind off Nina so two weeks passed without anything special until the day exam results came back. His mother, who did a daily check of the mail saw the address of an envelope sent to Cid. She gasped and called for Cid's father.
"Ryan! Ryan" She called
Ryan, Cid's father who was in the shower came rushing out of the shower thinking his wife was in trouble. He was very amusing sight to behold: Soaking wet and half naked with a towel around his waist. "What yer shout for me?" He grunted.
"I was always thought you looked sexy in a towel," She said winking at him "Call for Cid. Shout as hard as you can."
"What fer?" Ryan asked walking forward to his wife.
"Just yell for the boy." She was getting impatient but she was focused on her approaching husband.
"Hmmmm, I'm not going to yell unless you tell me why?" Ryan replied in a nagging voice, getting so ever closer.
She sighed "Cid's results came back. Now yell!"
Ryan did not seem perturbed at all. As a matter of fact, wasn't paying even the slightest attention to what she was saying. When he got to her, he grabbed her hand.
"Lemme tell you what," He said in a suggestive tone "Leave the mail here. Cid's doing barn work right now so when he comes back into the house, he'll head to kitchen for a quick snack. He'll then see the mail on the table. Until then ~~~grrrrr," He put his face into her neck and was 'biting' her "Until then, you join me in the shower?"
She giggled "Are you fer real? Now?"
"When do you think I mean? Get yer ass up those stairs woman!" He growled and squeezed her ass and made her let out a little yelp, and ushered her up those stairs, giggling all the way.
Cid had just then finished the barn work. Just as his father predicted, he went straight to the kitchen for a snack.
"Hmmm, where's Mum and Dad?" He wondered. He then noticed the mail on the table "What's this?"
He picked up the mail which was encased in manilla envelope. When he saw the address, he froze like a statue. The results had come back.

nice story read it and had only one problem in this part:
"Knowing that stomach of yours," Cid's mother joined in "You might puke half-way through your chat."
I don't think this is a major problem but i think "chat" for me is not the appropriate word, IMO id doesn't sound right. Try "conversation".
Really nice story there. He just puked in her face. I lol'd there. xD

Glad you like it mate. And thanks for the tip. I really gotta work on my expression and vocabulary. I suck at those. ._.
