you mixed up photoshop pen tool and illustrator pen tool, you cant have mathematical calculated graphics in photoshop. And the "spots" that control the curve are called bezier handles You should have explained more about the shape path too, and the work paths, how you can make a selection or how you can use the same path again by choosing it from work path.
