 how many are left?
Okay, so there are 10 fish. 2 die, 5 drown, 1 gets trapped in the filter, how many are left?

All of them? A fish can't drown...
I don't think you said anybody removed the dead fishes.

10, until you remove the 2 dead ones (PS, if you use the literal term, fish can't drown, unless their gills get damaged, since to drown is to suffocate underwater)
And it's fish, not fishes.
