On the first one you could have set the text on soft light or blurred and added more color.

What is it :? thats a bad sign for first, hmmm you still have to work with lighting and lighting effects with B&W and also Depth which i cant see none of in this sig sorry dude this is a big no no in my books, i like that your trying so GJ and i hope to see more from you in the B&W section . You know a good way to play with the b/w is with the colours so play with the selective colours adjustment layer or right in the b/w ( i think it has an adjustment thingies to play with too >.<)

It's got so much crunch to it it's great and I like the slash of white in it for some reason, as said before me, try an put a nice blur on the text if your ganan keep text in there )
