I tried to make it look as if the light from the flame's were lighting it up.

you can darken it gradually, like parts that are farthest away from him won't be lit up the same as the the parts closest to him (in a 3rd Dimension thought process)

Background really doesn't fit. Shapes look very odd with this piece and yeah, that whole lighting thing is off for sure. If you don't like it (I really don't mean to sound sassy so plz forgive me if I do) then try making a new BG or something so you like it more? I find that when I don't like a tag I do if I think about it I can usually redo it and do a lot better the second time around even if I just change a few things or something.
