First Time With a C4D /cry :P
I thought id give it a go using a c4d and turned out quite horrible if u ask me :P it just doesn't flow with the rest of the image (the c4d) Advice on how to make it look... more right:P would be awesome .

There's a lack in composition, the right side, despite having a C4D is too dark against the left side which is pretty much purely the Halo render but larger, which is quite boring.
The lightsource is just a white brush, which is a way of creating light, but a very simple newbie way, so maybe try having yellow/orangey coloured brushes to lighten up.
So, BG shouldn't be just a large version of him (unless smudged and stuff).
The C4D is promising, just a bit too blurred. Some effect C4Ds could go well if it went over the render and if there was some behind it too.
Though I don't really use C4Ds much, find 'em too difficult haha.

To get your c4d to flow warp it with the warp tool, or liquify, I dont suggest it though, You're better off getting a c4d that suits your flow than flow to suit your c4d.
Your composition is lacking, the lighting is too dramatic either side of the master chief. one side its bright and visible, the other side is bland and dark.
Change your background up. Get some nice stock images of a battle zone, or some mountains.. Some thing cool. OR go down the smudging route, this will give flow and colour.
