    Default Apple Vector WP Help

Hey, I just finished vectoring this apple last night, but I'm having troubles figuring out what to do with the rest of the piece.... I tried using brushes to do some sort of a.. like melting theme but that didn't work out. I want to do some blurrying... maybe add a vignette? But I'm kind of at a loss here.

For the vector itself, this is my 3rd vector I've ever made but any suggestions on improving my style are greatly appreciated.

EDIT: LOL somehow I typed Apply instead of Apple. I'm tired... /sobs
If a mod would like to fix this that'd be great....

I suggest using Gradient Mesh for the apples skin. Step Shading is alright, but Gradient mesh gives a much smoother look. Also the leaf needs a bit more detail.

Oh I should have probably said that I did this in Photoshop. I know what you're talking about, but personally I like the choppier look vs smooth look. And I do have Illustrator but so far I've gotten disgustingly frustrated with it xD

I have been working on the leaf too but not totally sure how to shade it... I guess I'll have to look at some more apples. Thanks for your input, though!

Looks good, I like the layered gradient style more than giving it a smooth texture.

You want to make sure that the layers are smooth, I can see some of them have to sharp of a corner on them. Also, on the top of the apple where it dips into the center, you might want to have some dark shades just to show a little separation from the apple infront to in behind (If you know what I am saying.) Yes, leaves are hard to vector, because they aren't simply flat, they are indented along the vein of the leaf, so it can be difficult for true representation, but if you give an over all shading too it, it will be fine. Have a little bit darker shading on the top right hand side to show that it is turned over a bit, then lessen the shading as you get to the left.

PS: In the near future I might be making a second Illustrator tutorial, but you can get my last one for basics here, and this is the AI file to show each step, that you can play around with. It is to create a simple picture, but it does cover a few basics.

Give Illustrator another try. You'll love it, especially for vectors. Photoshop is not a vector program, in Illustrator the quality and work space is much better.

Yeah I know. Photoshop isn't... but I understand it more. Illustrator literally had me wanting to smash my computer into pieces after I used it so I'm hard-pressed to xD But I'll try. No promises though. I'm mentally scarred.
