I just scanned right out of my sketchbook and they're pretty big so I'll give thumbnails.

Now, keep in mind, I have never taken any art classes or anything. Basically I picked up a #2 pencil three days ago and just kept trying out different things.

Not bad. I'm not going to bullshit you and say they're good... but considering what you said, they show some promise.

The biggest thing is going to be getting away from outlines. Outlines don't exist in reality. You want to concentrate on the shadding to imply edges. The best exercise that I can think of, I still do it often, is to draw a ball. That's it. Just draw a little orb and shade it... hrm. you know what. I'm going to make a tutorial about it. It's a good exercise, and i'm worried too many people around here don't focus on their drawing ability and rely on filters as a crutch...yes yes. Tutorial it is.

Anyway, keep it up. don't stop drawing, it's essential.

Oh, by no means are they meant to be fantastic, as I mentioned these are the first 3 pages from my first sketch book. Thanks for the input though. I'm looking forward to your tutorial. It's what I've been told by my friends who are aspiring artists themselves - I show promise, but my strokes are too finicky and I don't always have the image in my head before i start drawing.

I can tell you from experience that it's VERY difficult to get an idea from your head onto paper. It almost never turns out like you wanted it to, but as long as you're pleased with the end result that's all that matters. Most of my paintings get halfway finished before I have any clue what I'm doing.

Your lines are very harsh and strong. Try to be less heavy handed, just lightly brush free flowing lines across the paper. When you find a line or a series of lines that finally look right then darken it up alittle. You'll see what I mean when I type up this orb thing. My drawings, especially from my head, start out as a bunch of lightly scribbled strokes, and then I erase and darken, erase and darken. It's a layered process not a linear one.

Thanks a lot, buddy. Everybody should read that tutoriol. The concept is so basic, but I honestly would never have been able to figure it out myself
