I like the Twitter/Facebook Icons, I also like the overall layout - but things are a little too big, its best not to put drop shadows on anything other than rollovers and the Home/Login etc.. should be at the top.

I would suggest looking up some webdesign inspiration, finding something you like and trying to go for it (not directly copying ofcourse).

You probably know this already but remember to always use Arial for any text that isn't a button of some sort, any custom fonts wont be displayed unless that actual font is held on the server.

    Good work man.

It's very oldschool. Looks clunky. You need to keep web design simple, easy to use and clean whilst looking good. Look at deviant art for inspiration with webdesign.

http://www.designmeltdown.com <- Really good way to see what's going on and how styles are trending in / out.

It seems like you've got the basics down. Not going to repeat what everyone else said. Just take a look at that site (as well as http://www.smashingmagazine.com) for more information / resources. Fortunately for you, there's a ton of good information out there to keep you on the right track.

If you like having a hands on guide / theme book to look at, I highly recommend http://dmdthebook.com/books/volume-1/ (there are 2 volumes with a 3rd on the way). I own both of these books and can say I use them every time I start a new project to get inspiration / ideas.

As far as your design goes, I don't know if you were going to take this any further, but if I were going to stick with this design, I would try my best to do everything in CSS, using as few images as possible, especially since most of the effects you've used / overall structure of the site can be redone very minimally with CSS.
