"Don't get bored" is a easy thing to say but a really tricky one to stay away from all the time.
Sometimes being bored is a good thing, it can server as a carrot. -hey I'm bored I need to do something, let's open up photoshop. And you start playing and fooling around, trying other things that you normally wouldn't do. That's how half of my stuff is created, the other half is ideas and concepts which are planed.
My motto is to go with the flow, meaning try a dousin of different things until you find something that you like rather than being satisfied with the first best thing. It takes much more time but it's worth it.
So that's why I'm s slowpoke when it comes to art, I rarely have a finished concept in mind and always try out many different techniques along the way, I end up trashing most of them. So that's the downside, it takes time. The upside is you won't get monotone ending up with the same old effects and combinations.

So yeah motivation isn't everything, I haven't been properly motivated for months but still ending up trying out new things.
My biggest advice would be to never give up! Don't trash your PSDs, save them and continue the next day. It's not worth pushing it just for the sake of getting it finished. Darius wasn't developed in one day...., it took 9 months
