How to do this effect?

How do I do this, like have a positive and negative like just have eyes, hair, lips, outline of ears etc in a color and have the rest blend with background. I was thinking about tracing in illustrator but there has to be a easy way.

Open said image in Illustrator
Select the image and use live trace
On default it will be black and white like you want, just play around with Threshold and Min. Area to get it how you want.
