Well after a few failed drawings I sat down and thought about what is holding me back and why I can put this image that's in my head into a sketch that looks good and as soon as I start painting I just can't finish it. I came to the conclusion that A) I dont know how to paint well enough and the brushes in photoshop just feel different. B) I am not putting in strong enough values and shapes. And finally, C) I don't know how to start pronouncing the tedius shapes and textures to make it visually clear. Well to work on this I decided to do paint overs or basically color in the lines and paint from the image to take the thinking out of it and just paint. I am also going to be using textures to help me understand how to paint them as well, however they will not be from the original image.
So at this point I am about an hour-hour and a half in. I just added in some basic textures to start working with and added the fly fisherman outline. I will be trying to actually add detail to him later on and probably will move him farther out into the water. I need to create a better sense of just how large this lake is as well but I think that will start to show more as I continue adding small bits here and there. The grass on the bottom left corner is simply a place holder and I will be smudging it down and cleaning it up with less obvious brush use.
I will post updates and eventually the original image to show you what the original looked like. Just wanted to contribute something to the site and let you guys know what I am up to in the mean time.
