its good for your first day :huh: i didnt ever know filters when i started ^^
but yeah, u should try to move away from filters asap.

Good for a first... I use to use filters a lot too... but they're only good for backgrounds... and blending n such when you figure that out...

i dont think you should move away from filters, i think you should get to learn them and use them to your advantage to enhance your picture.

It is indeed good for a first day. Learn to use filters, don't shy away from them. They do help to inhance your art. And yes, it's still art even if it's all filters... Keep practicing, I can't wait to see more...

Its quite good for your first day, plenty of tutorials you need to do now. And its good to see more and more people getting involved with gfx.
The following steps to success;
Learn filters, and apply what you learned in tutorials to your work to make it better.
Learn the tools of the trade, the toolbox is your best friend, use him a lot.
Learn Layer Styles, these can give excellent effects on text and buttons.
Learn Colour effects, the hue/saturation tool (ctrl + u) and the colour balance tools are great for changing colour or taking away colour.
Learn Blending modes - These are the best things for blending in your photomanips and abstract renders.
Be Creative - sometimes its just best to just fiddle round with any settings and see what it comes out like, it helps develop ideas.

lol I like how you said that. Yea listen to ColdCatalyst, he knows what's he's talking about. After you do that, learn to use brushes. Either make your own or download them. Look through the tutorials on this forum and also use this link for some help.
