Well...there are and have always been sites pointing bill gates as being the anti-christ...and some of the things they've said are eerily true. So what do you think?

    I believe the company has a monopoly on the computer market, but they earned it. While their practices and methods are questionable, it's what i have always used...and i don't really mind it that much.

    taken from http://egomania.nu/gates.html:
    "Since we're all using MICROSOFT products here, I thought I'd just let you know these facts... Do you know that Bill gates' REAL name is William Henry Gates III? Nowadays, he is known as Bill Gates (III) where "III" means the order of third (3rd). So, what's so eerie about this name?

    OK, if you take all the letters in Bill Gates III and then convert it in ASCII code (American standard code for information interchange) and then ADD up all the numbers...you will get 666, which is the number of the beast!!!

    B = 66

    I = 73

    L = 76

    L = 76

    G = 71

    A = 65

    T = 84

    E = 69

    S = 83

    I = 1

    I = 1

    I = 1__ = 666 !!!! THE NUMBER OF THE DEVIL

    Coincidence? Maybe, but take WINDOWS 95 and do the SAME procedure and you will get 666 too!!! And the same goes for MS-DOS 6.31!!! Are you sure this is not a coincidence? You decide....

    MS-DOS 6.21 ** 77+83+45+68+79+83+32+54+46+50+49 = 666

    WINDOWS 95 ** 87+73+78+68+79+87+83+57+53+1= 666

    Okay now for the good part

    For those of you who still have the OLD Excel 95 (not office 97), try this:

    1. Open a new file.

    2. Scroll down until you see row 95.

    3. Click on the row 95 button, this highlights the whole row

    4. Press tab, to move to the second column.

    5. Now, move your mouse and click on help, THEN about Microsoft Excel

    6. Press ctrl-alt-shift and click on the tech support button simultaneously.

    7. A WINDOW WILL APPEAR, TITLE: THE HALL OF TORTURED SOULS

    This is really eerie, okay...it has a doom style format and you can walk all around the hall (using your arrow keys)...and on the sides of the walls are the names of the tortured souls....

    8. NOW WALK UP THE STAIRS AND THEN COME BACK DOWN, FACE THE BLANK WALL AND THEN TYPE IN EXCELKFA.

    This will open the blank wall to reveal another secret passage, walk through the passage and DO NOT fall off (this is the hard part&#33, when you get to the end, you will see something really, really eerie.... (This is REALLY there! I haven't been able to reach the end of this VERY narrow passage though.... - WILANT)

    At this point of time, countless witnesses all over the world have verified that it is a real eye opener. It could be a joke by MS programmers or is it?

    Wouldn't be surprise if Bill Gates was "The Antichrist", after all it was already foretold in the Bible that someone powerful would rise up and lead the world to destruction. And Bill Gates definitely has that kind of power in his hands. More than 80% of the world's computers run on Windows and DOS (including those at the Pentagon)! If all his products have some kind of small program embedded (like this Hall of Tortured Souls) that can give him control, setting off nuclear arsenals, creating havoc in security systems, financial systems all over the world, etc. All from his headquarters isn't as far off reality! Just using Internet Explorer may allow him to map out what you have on your computer bit by bit each time you log on. Perhaps the end times are near and this is just the tip of the iceberg!

    Quote from the Bible:

    "He also forced everyone, small and great, rich and poor, free and slave, to receive a mark on his right hand or on his forehead, so that no one could buy or sell unless he had the mark, which is the name of the beast or the number of his name. This calls for wisdom. If anyone has insight, let him calculate the number of the beast, for it is man's number. His number is 666." Revelation 13:16-18.

    See...it is something for you to think about if the Bible, in the Book of Revelation, says that without the sign of the beast one would not be able to buy, sell, do business transactions, etc. My question then to you now is this...Is the Internet now a necessity in doing business?

    The Internet also bears the sign. Note that the Internet is also commonly known as the World Wide Web or WWW. One other way we write W is V/ (VI) so:

    W W W = VI VI VI 6 6 6"

    So everyone might be crazy, but it's kinda creepy, wouldn't you say?

    1. Spaces should have been included in the name, also the word third instead of III should have been used. Any of these minor, but syntacticaly correct changes makes the 666 calculation invalid.

    2. The Excel 'easter egg' was put there in the software because at the time doom 2 was massive and they put it in there for fun.

    3. The internet is not required to do business. do you use the net when you go and buy petrol (gas for yanks), or pick up a pizza etc? is there anything you do online that couldn't be done offline? maybe not as easy but it can be done, thus it is not 'required'.

    4. The concept of the mark of the beast to be able to do something was a concept that was common at the time when the book of revelations was written. Often countries would attempt to run out ethnic groups of people and would try and identify them in some way to make life harder. This was done to the Jews during WWII with the star put on them. There's nothing scary or original in the idea.

    5. WWW = V/V/V/ or VI VI VI? how the hell does W = V/??? wasn't taught in english when i was at school.

    So in conclusion there is nothing 'creepy' about the above.

    I wouldnt get too worried. Don't you think people look at the code for programs such as word, and thats most likely how they found that weird hall of tourtures thing in the first place.

    It's just a little easter egg the programmers added, kinda funny if anything. There's MANY in Microsoft Office, but I don't think they do any harm, lol. Who knows?

    Easter eggs rule. I dont see how thats strange..

    And that 666 is bullshit. BUt as acompany, microsoftis good. They treat there employees nicely, treat customers well, and make good products. There prices are just to damn expensive at normal retail value. (buy it from a college or something)

    Hmm Microsoft, my thoughts upon, an interesting question you ask young padwan.

    In Australia we have this expression called "Tall Poppy Syndrome". It means that people feel a need to belittle and cut down those who are successful, often with a level of self justification which makes the person feel better because they are not successful.

    A lot of Microsoft Bashing is either "Tall Poppy Syndrome" or "Jumping on the Bandwagon" of bashing MS.

    In all honesty we owe Microsoft, Intel and IBM a lot in terms of having home computing. It may have not been Microsoft, as IBM at the time were asking around for an OS for the new Personal Computer that IBM were going to release, but as a result we have a predominant standard for a desktop computer that enabled interaction of software, development of software and retention and reuse of skills from job to job. This has helped develop the massive desktop based IT industry.

    Without IBM developing the PC, we would be stuck with things like Apple Mac and maybe the TRS 80 or CPM derivitave.

    MS has done some very suspect things, and moraly I don't beleive that they were correct. They have behaved very similar to how IBM has in the past (and present), as well as Ma and Pa Bell. However I don't think Microsoft should be split up, i dont beleive that the Browser should be seperated from the OS and I dont beleieve that the Media Player should be removed from the OS.

    I do beleive that the Government is not even close to capable of telling the IT industry how it should run it's business or what technically is correct or incorrect and telling a company how to develop it's software.

    Note that the major players who supported the Justice Department's court action against MS were state governments and MS competitors. Why? Well because the state governments could get money out of MS, lets face it, most of em need as much cash as possible, just look at california. competitors becuase they wanted to damage MS, regardless of the reason involved.

    MS is a realy hard subject to speak about, but I'm glad they're around and have been able to push standards and integration because of their dominance. If it wasn't for the dominance, what we have today would never have happened.
