Someone asked me to do a BIG logo for them with lightening.

Does this look remotely decent? I can't be objective.

I wouldn't really say it's a logo, more of a banner. But anyways..I prefer the second one because the scan lines take away from the lightning. You definately should work on the text..I personally don't like bevel and emboss on text because it's overused and looks tacky after awhile.

Lower the bevel on the font.
