New Laptop

I got myself a nice little designing laptop, only cost me $1,100 up front with a $200 mail in rebate.

Got it from Dell, not usually my first choice for laptops but they had an awesome deal last week.

15.4" WXGA (1280x800)
1.7Ghz Pentium M
1GB DDR2
Intel GMA 900 (integrated graphics card)
40Gb Hard Drive
WinXp MCE
8x DVD+/-RW drive (free upgrade)
Internal wireless
6 cell battery

The hard drive size wasn't important, my external drive is huge. And the battery wasn't important either, It's going to be plugged in all the time.

Not a bad deal I thought. The only thing I was really concerned with was the memory, and having a DVD burner. Both of which sent other computers well over the $900 mark (which is what i'm paying after the rebate). I'll post an update once it gets here, let you guys know how it performs. I have a feeling i'm going to be cleaning useless bloatware off of it for at least a weekend.

Sounds pretty straight, although i'm not a huge fan of laptops. You pay more for technology thats not that fast... I find it annoying.

I would say it was a rip-off really, if its a work laptop it will be fine. I use mine for school only, not like I'll be playing games and the such.

Sony's are awesome laptops , i have a vaio also.

My dad got it from work though... heh if i knew his login details.. i could mess up his designs for all of the new vodafone hardware in england... and BLAM . Oh the fun ^_^

Anyways. Sony's are EXPENSIVE to get parts for. New keyboard = £200 ish. ((had to come from thailand or somewhere ))

Dell's have fairly good support eye thinks. The keyboard isn't very solid on the laptop though...
And the button in the middle of the keyboard = ANNOYING

No, 1gb is what I wanted. I didn't want 512MB since the video card uses shared memory. 512 is fine usually, it's what I use on my desktop machine. But when I had photoshop, illustrator, limewire, and firefox all running at the same time 512mb didn't cut it.

It wasn't $1300, it's $900. I didn't get ripped off, lol.

The pentium M is a good processor all around. The celeron has alot of shortcomings, but the pentium is fast and stable.

The hard drive, as I said, isn't at all important to me. it's also a 7200RPM so that's good. I'd prefer it to be fast instead of large. My external stores all my information anyway (120GB)

The graphics card isn't the best, but as I said, it's unimportant to me. This isn't a gaming machine, it's for photoshop, illustrator, browing the net, and writting papers. That's all. The GMA 900 is actually a pretty good video card.

I looked around a good bit before I bought it, taking into account support and warranty's, as well as replacement parts, this is was the best deal for the price. The difference between $900-$1100 is a big deal for me, I've got a very specific budget.

My dad has one of the older media center vaio desktop/laptop thingys :mellow:

ps. Im not an intel hater, i just prefer AMD
