and something i didnt put in the tut that should be but im too damn lazy, instead of erasing u might get a better effect with the lasso tool (polygonal or regular) with a little bit of feather added to it
You can also just use the magic select wand, then define the brush. It works great, and is alot simplier! ;)

yes i guess you could but if u use the magic wand it might not always select the places u want selected, this way u have control over the shape of the brush, but thank you
But, it also give a more random feel to it, which is what grunge is.
