You can use the magic tool and feather, or like.. the eraser. But yeah, show us. SHOW US *excited*
Use the pen tool to outline the shape, make sure you have it set as the opposite to that one that makes shapes... ermm... "outline" or whatever. Then you can just make the outline, right click "Make Selection". Then click the layer you want and hit delete key :)
use teh select color range thing...and show us the picture now!
Most likely, you could inverse the image, define a brush preset, then just brush it to where you need it.

I know there is a plugin/filter to extract white from things, there could easily be one for black. If not try the magick wand then select inverse.
as kidd said... goto select>colour range make sure you foreground is black & move the bar to vary your selection...

thanx for the help but i can't remember what the pic it was cause i just said black wit white brushing to make it simple.
