My first try at this. Comments on how to improve are welcome.

Prett basic, but a good start. Try adding a planet for a focal point next time! =)

Next time make it alot BIGGER
I would suggest to use a colour balance layer instead of having the colours on the layers themselves.
read some tutorials, first on basic things, like creating a starfield, and then move up to brushing nebulas and making planets.
you can find tutorials on sites like good-tutorials.com and at http://coldflame1987.deviantart.com/gallery/ <== theres a fev quite advanced (and great) tutorials, and youll have to know the functions of photoshop probably.
Keep doing the same style for a time, dont switch all the time if you want to get good at it.
