Well it's not photoshop so i don't know whether it has all of the features, it's not going to be exactly the same, take a look around the interface, i'm not sure if it has filters...
Never used anything besides photoshop, what is gimp exactly?
Have you tried deviantart.com or google?
stands for gnutella (i don't think, that's the p2p name) image manipulating program if i'm correct.
I used it a while back, it's actually not bad. Works well and is pretty quick, just less powerful than ps. You can do ALMOST everything in GIMP as in PS, but it's in a roundabout way. I haven't personally used gimp2 though.
Its Stands for GNU Image Manipulating Program.
GIMPshop is the modded version (its free source) which is in the EXACT same layout as photoshop. (GIMP is hard to use if your used to photoshop)
Never heard of gimpshop, I'll have to check that out sometime. Although if you already have photoshop, there's no practical reason to use the gimp.
I don't think GIMP has all those brushes and filters. I'm not to fimiliar with it. If it does, I'd look around google for it.
"GIMP is an acronym for GNU Image Manipulation Program. It is a freely distributed program for such tasks as photo retouching, image composition and image authoring." http://www.gimp.net
