I've recently created my own forum and i was wondering how one goes about getting the word about it out?
I have found webrings to be largely unsuccessful and was wondering how GFX void managed to get the word out there when it first started?

Gfxvoid became popular from tutorials.
If you don't do tutorials, then you'd have to pay for adverts or something i assume.
Or setup another website which will get alot of hits ( something to do with myspace or cha )
Or buy a url like... www.mysapce.com and set it to redirect to yer site. You'd get LOADS of hits then ;)
Thers many ways.
Write tutorials and submit them to p2l etc.
Advertise on other forums
Tell friends + family
Paid advertising on toher sites, maybe adwords etc.
But the main thing is to make sure your site is making the viewers want to join and stay.
If it is a free host/forum with a free skin it is unlikely to become large although it is possible.
well i paid for hosting, found the skin and edited to suit, so it has its own look...
i have found that your name says it all.. i mean like in your case or my case likenota what is that?! no one knows if it were like likenotadesigns then they would know same with your name redrokkit whats up with that ? yea well i got members on my site loken and you do have an account there so post in the affiliate section and we can swap buttons. ;).
Loken
I looked at your forum and personally i would not join just by looking at the splash page, it looks very basic it could be done witihn 2mins.
and the fact it is not coded properly aswell.
I love the forum skin, but tis broke? there are no indicators on the left lololol
and there are WAY WAY WAY TOO MANY forums there to say you have little members.
When you first start off a forum try to have little forums so it does not seem as empty.
