I like it alot, I think teh BG should be a gradient though. Not a fancy one, but one that gives the illusion of growth
too flat i think, needs alot more depth and yeah that background could use alot more. maybe, with this flat style, you should really detail those eyes, make them seem really really vivid and real. some good shapes though.

the background IS a gradient, dark red to light(er) red. I'm working on the background (kinda) right now.. but i have to awake in 4 hours for work so I should probably go to bed.... i'll update it when i have time.
needs a divide on the lips, its annoying me :P
Othewise, its very good. Me likes. But you try adding some more levels of depth if you wanted.
