I like the effects, what about maybe bring the sprites chest out a tad more?

It's look really good (especially for your first sprite sig). I agree with Daemon, make the sprite stand out more. The light behind him is nice, but it sort of prevents you from seeing him all that well.
A sprite is a little.. um.. pixel-drawing type thing.
