I'd appreciate comments on how to improve the text.

Looks cool to me, like you think he is smiling behind the shadows, heh good job. :)

I would get rid og the Gradent thening on both sides, also try blenging the render a bit more. And the text needs a bit of work.. But it isn't bad.. good job.

Add color man, I know you most likely went for that look but use some color~! Other than that its nice

Over the whole sig, or just the bg? and what colour would look good?

i think maybe you should try playin around with the options of the gradient on the sides or the opacity. the gradients make it looke too plain.

Text needs some work.. Take of the dotted border.. Mess around with the gradient settings more.. :P
